What custom blinds really cost in the GTA in 2026

July 22, 2026

Custom blinds are priced by size, not by a flat rate, which is why two windows in the same house can cost very different amounts. Here is what actually drives the number in the GTA in 2026.

The first variable is square footage. A window that is 36 by 60 inches is 15 square feet. A wide living room window that is 72 by 60 is 30 square feet. Double the fabric, roughly double the cost. That is why a price per square foot is the honest way to talk about blinds, and why a quote for one window does not tell you much until you know its size.

The second variable is the fabric or slat tier. Every product has an entry fabric and a premium tier, and the premium tier usually adds about twenty percent. Premium buys you a nicer hand, a richer colour, and often a better opacity. In most homes it is worth it in the rooms you look at most, and not worth it in a laundry room.

The third variable is the system. Cordless is standard on everything we sell now, because Canadian regulations require it, so it does not add cost. Motorization adds $229 per unit, and it is the upgrade clients are happiest with a year later, especially on tall or hard-to-reach windows. A smart hub adds $99 if you want app control, scheduling, and voice with Alexa and Google Home.

Then come the finishing options. A fabric-wrapped cassette adds fifteen percent and gives a roller shade a clean, finished top edge. Blackout side channels add $49 and close the light leak on the sides of a roller or zebra, which matters in a bedroom. A solar panel adds $79 if you want to skip charging.

Putting it together, a typical entry roller shade in a standard window lands in the low hundreds installed. A zebra shade with a cassette in a wide living room window runs higher. A cellular shade in a bedroom with blackout and motorization is the top of the DIY range. Most whole-home orders average out to a few hundred dollars per window once the mix of sizes and rooms evens out.

The way to keep the budget sane is to spend where you look. Motorize and upgrade the fabric in the living room and principal bedroom. Keep the basement, the laundry, and the spare room simple. Nobody ever regretted a plain roller in a utility space.

And remember there are two ways to buy. DIY pricing is the number you see in our shop, and it is the lowest. The measure-and-install service costs more because we measure, we install, and we guarantee the fit for life. Both are on the table, and we will tell you honestly which one fits your project and your comfort level.
