California shutters cost in Ontario: what actually drives the price
October 3, 2026
California shutters are the window covering people ask about with the most hesitation, because the price is rarely posted and the range is wide. Here is how shutters are actually priced in Ontario, what moves the number, and how to budget for them on a typical GTA home.
Shutters are priced by the square foot of the window, not per window. A small bathroom window and a wide living room window are the same product, but one is three square feet and the other is twenty, so the price scales with the glass. This is why every shutter company quotes in person: the number depends on exact measurements and on the shape of each opening.
Material is the biggest lever. Vinyl shutters are the most affordable and are the right choice in bathrooms, kitchens and anywhere humid, because they never warp. Composite and real wood cost more, and wood is the only option if you want a stain finish or need to span a very wide window with fewer panels. Most GTA homes end up with vinyl in the wet rooms and wood or composite on the front-facing windows where the look matters most.
Louver size changes the look more than the price. Two and a half inch louvers are the traditional choice. Three and a half inch louvers are the modern standard and give a cleaner view. Four and a half inch louvers suit very large windows. The hidden tilt rod, which removes the visible bar down the centre, is a small upgrade that a lot of clients choose.
Shape is the other big factor. Standard rectangles are straightforward. Arches, angles, French doors, sliding doors and bay windows all need custom frames and add to the cost. A bay window with three sections is three sets of panels and frames, so it is priced accordingly.
As a rough guide, a standard front-facing window on a GTA home runs several hundred dollars installed, a large living room window can run into four figures, and a whole house of shutters is typically in the high four figures to low five figures depending on how many windows you do. We quote every window on its own line so you can shutter the front of the house and use shades elsewhere if that suits your budget better.
Two things to know before you commit. Shutters are permanent in the sense that they are built to the window and stay with the house, and they add real resale value, which is why realtors in Oakville, Vaughan and Markham recommend them. And they take four to six weeks to build, because the tolerances are tight. We measure and install every shutter ourselves. It is the one product we do not sell online, because an eighth of an inch is the difference between a shutter that closes and one that does not.
