Best blinds for condos in Toronto and Mississauga

September 29, 2026

Condo windows are a different problem from house windows. You are usually dealing with floor-to-ceiling glass, a wall of it, often facing west with no overhang. You have a strata or condo board with rules about what colour shows from outside. And you are living close enough to the next tower that privacy is not optional. Here is what works in Toronto, Mississauga, Vaughan and Etobicoke condos, based on what we install every week.

Roller shades are the default for good reason. A single clean panel, no visible hardware once it is up, and fabrics in every opacity. For a west-facing unit, a solar screen roller in 3 or 5 percent openness is the single best upgrade you can make. It cuts most of the heat and glare while you keep the skyline view during the day. For bedrooms, a blackout roller with an outside mount handles the morning sun that condo glass lets in.

Zebra shades are the second most popular choice, especially in living areas. The alternating sheer and solid bands give you adjustable privacy from the building across the street without closing off the room. They also look more finished than a plain roller when the shade is lowered, which matters in an open-concept unit where the window is the whole back wall.

Sheer shades are the premium option for a bright unit where you want softness. They diffuse daylight beautifully and give you privacy during the day, but they are not a blackout solution, so pair them with a roller in the bedroom.

Three things to check before you order. First, your condo rules. Most boards require a white or off-white backing visible from the exterior. Every fabric we offer is available with a white backer, so this is easy, but it is better to know before you fall in love with a charcoal.

Second, the mounting surface. Condo windows often have a shallow top reveal, aluminum frames, and concrete above. Inside mount may not be possible on every window, and drilling into concrete needs the right anchors. This is exactly where a professional measure and install earns its fee.

Third, motorization. A wall of six windows with six chains is not a pleasant way to live. Motorized rollers with one remote, or a hub that opens the whole wall on a schedule, is the condo upgrade people never regret. Rechargeable motors mean no wiring, no electrician, and no strata permission for electrical work.

What to avoid: heavy drapery on a full glass wall unless you have the ceiling height for it, horizontal blinds with slats across a wide span because they sag and rattle, and anything with cords near a balcony door that children use.

If you are in a condo and not sure which direction to go, book a free in-home consultation. We bring the fabrics, hold them against your actual glass at the time of day that bothers you most, and give you a written quote on the spot.
